Welcome! My name is Ann Nelson. I have devoted my entire 20-year career to working as an editor in many different capacities across the publishing industry, having most recently served as a senior editor for an academic institution in higher education.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Journalism from Winona State University and a professional copyediting certificate from UC San Diego Extension.
For as far back as I can remember, I have been completely enamored with the written word. There's just something about the way sentences are constructed; the way well-written works can draw you in and ignite every single one of your senses; and, yes, even misplaced modifiers and horrible puns that can change your outlook on any day.
Now, as the owner of Fig Tree & Feather, I have taken my talents “on the road.” I currently perform freelance writing and/or editing services for a variety of clients, including Pearson, Heartwood Healing, and Experience Life magazine.
Outside of my editorial passions, I am an avid outdoor enthusiast, who spends as much time as I can out in nature camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, or snowshoeing. I am an aspiring yogi—I am currently pursuing my yoga teacher certification; a devoted wife to my amazingly handy and exceptionally sweet husband; and a loving mother to my smart and extremely amusing two-legged children and our family's adorable four-legged companion, Finnegan, a one-year-old chocolate Australian labradoodle.
